River Indus at Guddu was in high flood with a discharge of 5,48,147 cusecs, whereas it was flowing in medium flood stage at Taunsa and Sukkur locations at 1800 hours PST on Saturday.
According to flood situation report of Federal Flood Commission (FFC), mighty Indus at Besham, Tarbela, Khairabad/Attock, Kalabagh and Chashma locations was flowing in low flood. River Kabul at Nowshera, River Swat at Munda and other tributaries Shah Alam, Khiali, River Chitral, and Punjkora Dir were in high floods in NWFP.
FFC report said river Indus was likely to remain in high flood at Guddu and in medium flood at Taunsa and Sukkur during next 24 hours. Rivers Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej were flowing normally in the Punjab Province.
Daily water situation report of Indus River System Authority indicated additional 200,000 cusecs of water was released in the canals for irrigation purposes countrywide; 7,000 Cusecs from Thal canal, 4,800 Cusecs from CRBC from Chashma barrage, T-P Link, 2,000 cusecs from, Muzaffargarh Canal 5,000 Cusecs from , DG Khan canal, 8,900 Cusecs from Taunsa barrage, 32,277 Cusecss from Guddu barrage, 61,230 Cusecs from Sukkur barrage and 38,132 Cusecs from Kotri barrage. Total rim station inflows was 555,021 as against outflows of 525,902 Cusecs, while 168,068 Cusecs of water was released downstream of the last barrage on river Indus at Kotri.
As per Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) Lahore report, a westerly wave was affecting Kashmir and Northern Areas whereas seasonal low over Balochistan has extended its trough up to Northern Punjab and NWFP. For the past 24 hours, rain of light to moderate intensity was reported over Rawalpindi, & Gujranwala divisions of Punjab. Scattered rain of light to moderate intensity was also reported over the upper catchments of Rivers Chenab and Ravi besides Kohat and Sargodha Divisions. Significant rainfall over 25 mm was reported from Islamabad 45 mm and Shakargarh 25 mm. Scattered thunderstorm/rain is expected over Kashmir, Northern and North-eastern Punjab and Malakand, Peshawar and Kohat Divisions of NWF during the next 24 hours.
