As many as 1500 objections were filed by the voters with the Returning Officers on the nomination papers of the candidates for forthcoming Local Government elections. According to Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, 939 objections were filed in Punjab, 227 in Sindh, 235 in NWFP and 99 objections were filed by the voters against the nomination papers in Balochistan.
"Statement showing the number of objections filed by the voters on nomination papers in four provinces, shows the figure at 1500," Dilshad told APP on Saturday.
Friday was the day for filing the objections as the scrutiny process started on Saturday and will culminate on Sunday (July 24).
Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has already directed the Returning Officers to keep their offices open on Sunday (July 24) as well.
Polling for the first phase Local Government elections will be held on August 18.
Meanwhile, the Returning Officers to hold elections on remaining 56 districts in the second phase, issued the notice inviting nomination papers from the candidates to contest elections in 18 districts of Punjab, 12 districts of Sindh, 12 districts of NWFP and 14 districts of Balochistan.
Election in these 56 districts will be held on August 25, in the second phase.
