Federal Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Jehangir Khan Tareen has said a complete value chain analysis of Pakistan's garments industry would be carried out to make garments products internationally competitive. He stated this while reviewing a report prepared by the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) at a meeting of the Task Force for Garments Industry of the Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC).
Smeda Chief Executive Khawaja Shahab, Technology Up-gradation and Skill Development Company (Tusdeq) Chairman Almas Hyder and stakeholders from garments industry attended the meeting which held at the Camp Office of the Minister here on Saturday.
Jehangir Khan Tareen, while reviewing the report said due to implementation of WTO laws, a lot has changed in the international market and now our textile sector, especially garments industry was facing new challenges. He said the situation demanded to review our garments industry once again. He said a complete value chain analysis of the garments industry should be made instead of making a temporary review. 'We should also look that which country was producing quality items in this sector and how we could reach to this quality', he added.
Members of steering committees of the Task Force on Garments presented reports on productivity, financial restructuring and market designing on the occasion.
