Chairman Indus Motor Company (IMC), Ali S Habib has commended the government's reaffirmation of its commitment to support the growth of local auto industry. He was commenting on the joint press conference by Minister for Industries & Production, Jahangir Khan Tareen and Commerce Minister, Humayun Akhtar.
In a statement issued on Monday, he thanked the ministers for confirming that revisions in Trade Policy were to actually facilitate overseas Pakistanis in sending second-hand cars to their near relatives under existing schemes and policy was not directed towards hindering expanding automobile industry, investment and employment opportunities.
He also appreciated ministers' assurances that government would not allow trade policy to be misused to the detriment of local auto industry.
He reassured the government that auto industry would work with the government to assist in developing proper procedures so that incentives of trade policy were not misused and were only of benefit to genuine overseas Pakistanis.
Chairman IMC said auto industry urgently needed a long-term policy so that it could make further investments, enhance production capacities and reduce need for importing used cars.
