The Government of Japan has provided a grant of $252,788 to three non-profit organisations for health and education sector projects under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme.
Nobuaki Tanaka, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and representatives of the respective non-profit organisations, signed the agreements on Tuesday. The projects are Establishment of Glaucoma and Cornea Clinic at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Sukkur in Sindh for which $87,549 has been earmarked.
Currently, Al-Shifa Trust runs two eye hospitals in Rawalpindi and Sukkur, while a third one is under construction at Kohat. The grant will help in procurement of diagnostic equipment for eye clinics at Al-Shifa Eye Hospital Sukkur.
The second project is Improvement of two Basic Health Units in Abbottabad, NWFP for which Omar Asghar Khan Development Foundation will receive $77,811.
Japan's GGP support will be used by the foundation to upgrade two basic health units (BHU) in union councils of urban Havelian and Dalola. The assistance will be utilised for complete renovation of these BHUs and procurement of basic medical equipment.
The third project is Construction of Middle Schools Building in Layyah, Punjab for which Awami Welfare Society will receive a grant of $87,428. The assistance will help the society in constructing, furnishing and equip another secondary school in the Layyah Thal Jandi Union Council.
