The rupee on Tuesday retained its firmness in the open market versus the dollar for buying and selling at 59.63 and 59.65, dealers said.
The rupee, however, gained 10 paisa in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 72.90 and Rs 73.10, respectively.
In the international markets, the dollar moved both ways versus the major currencies, dealers said. The dollar fell after upbeat European factory data helped temper investor pessimism about the euro, while some traders favoured the yen as the Nikkei average hit a 13-month intraday high.
INTERBANK RATES: The rupee-dollar official parity rates fluctuated slightly for buying and selling at 59.63 and 59.65, marketmen said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained its firmness, showing no major change versus the dollar for buying and selling at 59.63 and 59.65, respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: LAHORE: The rupee failed to maintain upward move and depreciated its value by five-paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Tuesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar's remained under heavy demand, which helped appreciation in its worth against the local currency.
The dollar resumed trading at overnight closing rates of Rs 60.35 and Rs 60.45 on buying and selling sides, respectively. However, as a result of fresh buying, the dollar moved up and closed at Rs 60.40 and Rs 60.50 on buying and selling counters, respectively, the dealers said.
Similarly, the local currency remained under pressure and further lost its worth against the pound sterling. The pound's buying rate improved from Rs 105.50 to Rs 105.65 while selling rate moved up from Rs 105.90 to Rs 106.00, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: ISLAMABAD: The buying and selling rates of the dollar against the rupee remained unchanged in the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.45 (buying) and Rs 60.55 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe any further change in the evening spell, and closed at Rs 60.45 (buying) and Rs 60.55 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 105.60 (buying) and Rs 105.90 (selling) against the last rate of Rs 105.10 (buying) and Rs 105.60 (selling). It did not observe any further change, and closed at Rs 105.60 (buying) and Rs 105.90 (selling).
