The Relief Department, Punjab, on Tuesday requested the UNDP to provide relief items for flood victims of the 16 districts of the Punjab province. Director General, Relief Punjab, Muhammad Irfan Elahi told newsmen here that UNDP has been requested to provide relief items such as wheat, aqua tablets, jerry cans, plastic buckets, bars of soap and emergency health kits to the concerned district co-ordination officers for distribution among the flood victims.
Cabinet Division on the special directive of the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had already delivered tents, blankets and food packets in the flood affected areas of the province which were distributed among the 3,52,815 affectees, temporarily accommodated in 310 relief camps.
The DG said the floods had resulted in loss to standing crops over an area of 411415 acres in 1356 affected villages of the 16 districts.
The District Co-ordination Officers are providing shelter to flood affectees with the help of provincial government departments.
The Livestock and Dairy Development Department has provided sufficient vaccines for the animals. Mobile teams of Health Department Punjab are also visiting all flood affected areas and providing health care to the people.
