Sialkot district is in the grip of LB election fever with contestants wooing the electorate by meetings them personally and house-to-house canvassing. Although the local bodies' elections are scheduled to be held on August 18th yet the poll activities are gaining momentum on every passing day in 32 urban and 92 rural union councils of Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot district.
Most of the candidates were violating the Code of Conduct by wall chalking on city walls and hanging huge banners on busy roads. Similarly, in rural areas the Code of Conduct was also being violated by the candidates by displaying huge banners and wall chalking.
There was great enthusiasm among the voters and supporters in both rural and urban areas of Sialkot district. The supporters of the candidates were using their vehicles like tractor-trolleys, jeeps and Pajeros for the publicity purposes and most of the vehicles had been decorated with posters of their candidates in urban and rural parts of the district.
In urban areas most the candidates were holding face-to-face meetings with highly influential persons of different union councils for gaining support and obtaining votes in the elections.
It may be mentioned that a large number of former union council nazims, naib nazims, male and female councillors along with new candidates were in the election bout.
Meanwhile, big rush of female and male candidates along with their supporters had been witnessed at various printing presses.
The painters, rickshaw-walas and wagon owners were busy in minting money by displaying banners and placards on their vehicles during the polls in the district. The printing presses and painters were working round-the-clock for preparing the posters and stickers.
