Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan Tuesday said the government would not allow mosques and Madressahs being used as political platforms. Talking to newsmen after unveiling plaque of Garden Road-Manghopir Corridor via Kandawala Building to Bara Board project, he said that delivering sensational sermons for electoral drive was not proper.
Regarding expelling foreign students of religious schools, he said that provincial government would follow the policy of federal government.
Governor said that taking care of security arrangements for local government polls was the responsibility of police and rangers, however, the army would be there for backup support.
Provincial government had finalised all arrangements of the LG polls, in which police and Rangers would play the primary role. He said that for ensuring holding of free and fair elections, the government was taking steps to ensure strict implementation of 'code of conduct' of the Election Commission of Pakistan. He said that government was working on long-term uplift projects, while various schemes under ADP were also in progress.
On the ongoing cleanliness drive, he said that thousands of tonnes of garbage had been lifted from the city and DCO Karachi was reviewing the situation and visible change was being witnessed now. He said that he would personally monitor the cleanliness drive.
Earlier, the governor was briefed on the Garden Road-Manghopir Corridor. He was told that this 6.4km road would be completed with a cost of Rs198.87 million. The work on this project was initiated in July 2005 and would be completed by January 2007.
