The Deputy High Commissioner and Director Trade of British High Commission, Hamish Danial, has said that Pakistan has a lot of attraction for investors and business community of UK since there is very low-cost involved comparatively in launching and running business in Pakistan.
"I have seen a lot of potential and new venues of trade and economic co-operation between Pakistan and UK", Hamish Danial said here on Tuesday during his visit to Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).
Hamish Danial, who was accompanied by Jason Lansdale, Second Secretary and Hammad Siddiqui, Senior Trade and Investment Officer of the High Commission, held discussion with the senior executives of the chamber.
He was apprised about the potential for enhancing trade links of two countries in Rawalpindi.
Deputy British High Commissioner said that there was a huge potential to enhance Pak-UK trade and economic activities.
He emphasised the industrialists, exporters and business community of Rawalpindi to come forward to avail these opportunities.
He rated textile sector as the most potent sector of Pakistani economy and said that people involved in textile sector must explore venues in UK and Europe.
"Once you go to these venues you would find conducive atmosphere and business-friendly measures from European governments", he added.
He said that there was no visa policy change in post 7/7 scenario for traders.
Earlier, welcoming Hamish Danial, RCCI President Najam Rehan said that Pakistanis were equally aggrieved on the 7/7 terrorist attacks.
"Pakistanis can feel the pain of British nation as Pakistan has also been a victim of terrorism since long", he said.
He said such terrorist activities should be condemned collectively and largely and measures should be taken internationally to bring these terrorists to task.
He hoped that these attacks would not affect Pak-UK relations.
"Swelling foreign exchange reserves, stable exchange rates, low interest rates, improved credit rating by international agencies and decision to say good bye to IMF are all very positive indicators and the government of Pakistan deserves all praise for having performed so well", he said.
"It is the matter of fact that Pakistani traders feel comfortable in dealing with their counterparts from UK than any other nation. Pakistani traders have their links in UK and they can utilise these links to enhance trade", Najam Rehan said.
He said that Pakistanis are highly encouraged by the announcement of British High Commission that there would be no change in visa policy.
He said though Rawalpindi is neither an industrial hub nor a city possessing huge trade potential like Karachi but people of this region have potential and are capable of low volume trade with Britain.
"Thousands of people originating from this region are British nationals today and they can play an effective role in enhancing trade between UK and this part of Pakistan", he opined.
