The Swiss judge has given last chance to Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari to appear before the court on 19th of September in money laundering case.
Briefing newsmen here on Tuesday, a spokesman of the national accountability bureau (NAB) said that Zardari had sought exemption on the last hearing on 13th of July on medical grounds while Benazir Bhutto advanced family commitments and tour as plea for absence. To a question he said investigations are underway against 15 former district and Tehsil Nazimeen on corruption charges.
The NAB is also carrying out investigations against 10 housing societies of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. He said one of them - Askari Town - has liabilities of 490 million against it while NAB has so far received plea bargain offers of 370 million leaving a shortfall of 120 million.
As soon as the target of recoveries nears the liabilities, the process of refund to the victims would be started. He said that probe is also underway into affairs of 13 other Islamabad-Rawalpindi based housing schemes.
The NAB spokesman said Rs 4.48 billion have been recovered and distributed amongst victims of co-operative scam with the intervention of the bureau. He expressed the confidence that the bureau would be able to recover the remaining amount from the defaulters.
He said NAB recovered Rs 10.223 billion from 373 persons under plea bargain. So far the bureau has recovered Rs 129.5868 billion from different defaulters.
The spokesman said a strategy has been firmed up to tackle corruption at the lower level. A summary has already been submitted to the Prime Minister giving details of the strategy and financial and other requirements.
