The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is considering the idea of "Satellite Town" and other most-developed settlements in Islamabad to overcome much-talked about housing problem, sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday. The Mott Macdonald Pakistan (MMP), a consultant hired to review Islamabad Master Plan, has floated the proposal to the CDA Board in its presentation.
MMP Representative Sheikh Abdul Rasheed also briefed the CDA Board, presided over by its Chairman Kamran Lashari, about the feasibility of water supply from River Indus to Islamabad to meet water shortage in the Capital, the sources added.
The MMP in its presentation also proposed further development of urban roads to avoid traffic mess, the sources said, adding that establishment of model villages in the urban areas of Islamabad also came under discussion.
The consultant has also proposed realignment of Blue Area by extending it horizontally, the official said, adding that the CDA might also extend the territorial limits of the Capital on the recommendation of a consultant to introduce more settlements to cater to the ever-increasing housing demand.
Though MMP supported and followed the structural design of original Master Plan of 1960s, the consultant has made only two major changes like "alignment of Blue Area" and extension of "Islamabad territorial limits", the official said.
Informed sources told Business Recorder that the CDA has sent back the proposed document of Zone IV (Park Area) Master Plan to the MMP with comments.
The consultant will rectify or improve the shortcomings within one-month and resubmit it to the CDA Board before sending it to the Federal Cabinet for final approval, the official said.
Redevelopment of Islamabad major roads has also been planned in the proposed Master Plan after review, the official said. The CDA official said that little changes had been made in the Master Plan review.
The MMP had already submitted the proposed document for review to the Planning Wing of the CDA.
The CDA has awarded Rs 90 million contract of Master Plan review to MMP some six-month back in February 2005.
