The central leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has expressed "no confidence" in the Pakistan Election Commission for holding free and transparent local bodies' elections. The PPP leaders demanded that the local bodies' polls should be held under an impartial election commission with a caretaker government in place.
PPP Secretary General Raza Rabbani has said in a statement that the government is targeting the opposition, particularly the PPP.
Sindh PPP chief Nisar khuhro said that the Federal and provincial governments were governing the election commission and they were violating its electoral rules.
He claimed that the official resources were being used for the electioneering, government officers were being transferred and opposition candidates were being kidnapped, as the government wanted to secure a victory without any contest.
The Sindh government, he claimed, issued transfer notices to 20 district co-ordination officers (DCOs) in back dates. He alleged the Election Commission did not take any action in this regard.
Replying to a question, he said that the government had claimed that the elections would be held on non-party basis, but the Sindh Chief Minister was conducting electioneering in his official transport and using the district police officers (DPOs) for the pro-government candidates' unopposed victory.
