Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has announced that Wapda Special Relief Allowance has been merged into the new pay scales. A spokesman of Wapda said here on Wednesday that it is not correct that the organisation has withdrawn Special Relief Allowance for its employees.
He said that pending announcement of new pay scales the Federal Government approved the Special Relief Allowance in the year 2000. Wapda also provided the same relief allowance to its employees in line with the Federal Government decision. After enforcement of new pay scales 2001, the Federal Government discontinued the Special Relief Allowance whereas in view of hardship of its employees, the Wapda management instead of discontinuing the allowance decided to adjust the allowance through yearly increments.
"Later, the Authority also decided to continue the grant of allowance for another three years or till the next revision in pay scales", he added.
He said that the government has now brought in force the new pay scales 2005 and Wapda has also implemented the same.
Subsequent to this revision, there has been a considerable increase in pay and allowances of the Wapda employees. As a result, the Authority will spend an amount of Rs 3.4 billion per year in this head from the current fiscal year. Due to these reasons, Wapda Special Relief Allowance has been merged into the new pay scales.
It may be noted that the said allowance was purely an interim relief and remained continued till now on the request of the CBA. In the meantime, the Authority had also given additional facilities to the employees, having a financial impact to the tune of Rs 1925 million.
