Transporters of the Islamabad routes held a demonstration for about four hours against the harsh treatment of Islamabad Capital Territory police on Wednesday morning. The protest started when police allegedly manhandled some transporters. The transporters also accused the traffic police of charging Rs 800 to Rs 1000 per bus without any logical reason.
Following buses strike, the wagon owners of route 120, 121 and 105 also joined the protest, which created problems for passengers plying on these routes.
Employees of federal secretariat and other government and private offices had to either hire taxis or they were compelled to go back to their homes due to the non-availability of transport.
However, after negotiations with the administration, the transporters suspended the strike till Thursday.
Haji Malik, President of Transport Union, told this correspondent that the administration has invited them to hold a meeting with Deputy commissioner, Senior Superintendent Police (Traffic) and DSP (Traffic) Islamabad on Thursday to settle the issue.
He said they would put their demands to senior administration officers, and if these were not met, they would again resort to a strike till the replacement of the SP.
While talking to this correspondent, large number of passengers, who were anxiously waiting for transport, said that both transporters and police were equally responsible for creating this mess.
The people demanded of the government to immediately start wagons services instead of buses on routes 113 and 104.
They regretted that most of the people have to get taxis due to not availability of these buses at office time and also complained that the road from Karachi Company to Secretariat is very busy while the transporters are not giving proper services and these big buses usually suspend their service after 7 pm.
