Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday said Pakistan and Turkey needed to work together to revitalise the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) making it more vibrant and enabling to present Islam in its true light.
Talking to a Turkish Media delegation, which called on him at the Prime Minister House, he said the two countries enjoyed close brotherly relations and there was lot of potential to increase economic and trade relations.
About the UN reforms, the Prime Minister said Pakistan was for reforms in the United Nations on the principle of equity. He said Pakistan has unequivocally supported Turkey on the Cypriot issue.
Referring to domestic scene, the Prime Minister said Pakistan was a functional democracy with free press and a vibrant electronic media. The economy was also vibrant and growing, the Prime Minister added.
He said Pakistan has achieved a growth rate of 8.44 this year and was set to grow by 7 per cent next year. He said the country was improving its infrastructure and allocating substantial funds for health and education.
He said Pakistan has close and good relations with Iran and was engaged in a composite dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues including the core issue of Kashmir.
He said a strong and stable Afghanistan was in the interest of region. Pakistan has strategic relations with China and was co-operating in various sectors.
The Prime Minister said Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance and interfaith harmony and abhors extremism and terrorism. Turkey and Pakistan should work together to project Islam in its true light, he added.
