Managing Director Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) Irfan Ali will preside over a meeting at Bahawalpur Circuit House on August 10 to discuss arrangements for the Desert Jeep Rally 2006. DCO Bahawalpur, EDO Dr Raheel Siddiqui, TDCP Multan and Bahawalpur officials, Houbara Foundation representatives, and adventure-loving driving enthusiasts will participate in the meeting.
The rally, to be held in Cholistan desert some time in the first quarter of 2006, is expected to have a longer, route than previously, to promote desert tourism. Elaborate arrangements will be required to hold the mega event, said official sources. The last rally was held in April 2005 with a 265-km day run and a scheduled 148-km night run which could not take place.
Officials here were hopeful that the next rally will be a 350-km event, as drivers who participated in the rally earlier this year urged a longer race route next time.
