The NWFP Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq has expressed satisfaction on decisions made in Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) meeting that decided approval of certain mega projects for NWFP amounting to about Rs 9 billion.
He while thanking the federal government in this regard also expressed the confidence that such measures would greatly contribute in accelerating the pace of developmental process in backward province like NWFP as well as help in promoting harmony between centre and provinces.
Talking to journalists after attending the Ecnec moot that was presided over by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and attended by federal cabinet members as well as chief ministers and finance ministers from all the four provinces at Islamabad on Thursday evening, he said Peshawar Northern By-pass Road project had become essential requirement and hence top priority of the province due to increasing traffic problems at provincial metropolis wherein Ecnec approved this project costing Rs 3,078.77 millions and hence it was hoped that the practical work on the project would also be started soon.
Similarly he said approval of German Education Project costing Rs 928.568 million, TB control programme costing Rs 1,169.125 million, technical education and vocational training programmes costing Rs 1,280.713 million would also help in ameliorating lot of the masses in these important sectors. He said that sanction of Rs 93 billion in respect of umbrella projects in Information Technology, agriculture, communication and other developmental sectors was also encouraging progress.
He expressed the hope that NWFP would not only be given due share in all these umbrella projects but timely provision of funds would also be ensured for completion of such schemes while the past policy of putting such projects in cold storage and lapse of developmental funds would be avoided for a better future of the nation.
Siraj said that the current measures would also provide opportunities to the provincial government to fix its developmental strategies in more better way as he said streamlined and transparent use of the meagre available financial resources with the province was also a prerequisite.
He said that policy of MMA government about bringing financial discipline and imposing cut on non-developmental expenditures to divert it for developmental purposes has yielded encouraging results. He said revolutionary measures in health and education sectors have tantamount to pleasant change among the masses in these sectors.
He said that a prosperous and developed NWFP was in the larger interest of the country and nation and hence it was highly hoped that federation would realise such ground realities and would extend co-operation in congenial atmosphere of understanding for achieving these goals, he concluded.
