The NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has announced a grant for Rs 15 millions as concurrent expenditures to the women's university in Peshawar adding the provincial government would give further grant if needed to run the affairs of the university.
This he said while presiding over a high level meeting at the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Thursday. Provincial Minister for Education Fazal Ali Haqqani, Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, vice chancellor women's university Farhana Jehangir, additional secretary Higher Education, consultant Frontier Women University, chief planning officer of Higher Education, Dean Uloom-e-Islamia Faculty of Peshawar University, and secretary Finance attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed the university was being run in the hostel of Frontier College for Women for the time being. While the admissions would start after October and the Higher Education Commission would provide Rs 480 million for obtaining land, designing and running the affairs of the university in Larama.
Paying glowing tributes to the Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, Durrani said his commitment to the promotion of education in the province was unquestionable.
He directed the concerned officials to use Rs 480 millions grant, provided by the commission, for designing of the building. He also approved Rs three million grant for consultancy and directed to appoint a skilled and capable consultant for this project and keeping in view the future needs of curriculum, residence and education of girl students, in the preparation of construction design.
Durrani revealed the services and guidance of vice chancellor Peshawar University Lieutenant General Mumtaz Gul (Retd) and vice chancellor Kohat University Zabita Khan may also be followed. "The construction of linking road to the university with the main road must also be included in the master plan of the university," he stressed.
He said the MMA government had got ahead in providing facilities of quality education to the females in order to rope them in mainstream. The chief minister hoped the educational reforms by the provincial government would help in the accomplishment of a dynamic society.
He disclosed that land measuring 400 canals had been provided for the establishment of university and work on the scheme should not be delayed.
He said two buses had been provided for girl students (one for Frontier College and one for the women's university) and assured that provincial government would fulfil all needs of the university.
