The development funds of Rs 15 billion were lapsed in last three years of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) due to inefficiency of the past city administration, Sindh CM's Advisor on Local Government Wasim Akthar lamented here on Thursday.
Talking to newsmen during a visit to North Karachi to inaugurate five road projects, he said that lapsed amount being a huge one if utilised, it would have left far-reaching impacts on development side of the city. However, due to inefficiency and incapability of the former city administration, this could not be utilised for the betterment of city, he deplored.
Referring to five road projects, Wasim Akhtar told the newsmen that these were launched by the past city government, but it could not initiate the work on these projects due to political basis or issues related to awarding of contracts. He, however, said the department concerned had been directed to take up these projects and expedite the work.
He said the past city administration's inefficiency, which resulted in pending of projects, and pledged that now development projects would not be stopped on political basis.
The adviser dispelled the impression that he is running the election campaign for upcoming local bodies election, saying: "I have nothing to do with these polls at all and is doing the work in the capacity of local government advisor."
Earlier, the adviser expressed his dissatisfaction at the garbage lying on the sideline of Nagan Chowrangi and encroachment of footpaths by vendors.
Later, he inaugurated the five roads projects, which include carpeting of Road 2000 (both tracks from Road 5000 Nagan Chowrangi to Road 3000 (Anda Chowrangi) at the cost of Rs 15.76 million.
Also, improvement/carpeting of road 3000 (both tracks) from Road 2000 to Road 4000 at the cost of Rs 32.03 million, improvement in roads and drain around Urban Health Center St.7C Sector 5-C/3 North Karachi at Rs 3.153 million.
He said besides, improvement in road 4200 (both tracks) from Road 5000 to Road 3000 and improvement and carpeting of internal roads sector 15-A/1, 15-A/2, 15-A/5 Buffer Zone and B16/A KBR Society, North Karachi.
