Pakistan Muslim League (N), while opposing import of sugar in unlimited quantity, has said it would badly hit local sugar industry. PML (N) Punjab General Secretary Zaeem Qadri stated this while addressing a press conference here on Thursday.
'The Nawaz Sharif government had exported sugar to various countries including India and earned precious foreign exchange, while due to wrong policies of present government, sugar is being imported', he said. He alleged the government has granted permits to its near and dear ones for import of sugar.
Expressing concern over deteriorating law and order situation, escalating price hike, unemployment and increasing incidents of suicide in the country, he said the PML (N) has launched a protest campaign to press the government to address these issues.
To a query, he said holding of LB polls in a fair and transparent manner was not possible in the presence of General Pervez Musharraf, as he was openly supporting ruling party's candidates but the Election Commission has not taken any notice.
He further said Election Commission has not declared constituency of UC-83 Gujrat as sensitive, despite our written complaint. He further alleged that DCOs, and officers of sensitive organisations were interviewing ruling party candidates. Even the SHOs were harassing the LB candidates of opposition parties.
To a question, he said Saudi government had exerted pressure on military government for release of Nawaz Sharif. Moreover, the Saudi government had sent its plane so that Nawaz Sharif and his family members could safely go to Saudi Arabia, he maintained.
