The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) said its eastern market indicator (EMI) fell one cent to 720 cents a kg clean at its sales on Wednesday. AWEX said its northern indicator (Sydney) fell two cents to 730c/kg, while its western indicator (Fremantle) lost 18 cents to 700 c/kg. There were no movements in the southern indicator as sales are in recess until next week.
In Sydney, the market eased slightly on a large offering. More stylish finer microns remained firm while lower styles edged lower. Mid microns measuring 20 to 23 microns fell around five cents, with the exception of 22 microns which lost 10 cents.
Significant falls were seen across all microns in Fremantle, with 19.5 to 20 microns falling 20 cents, 20.5 microns losing almost 30 cents, while other microns were 20 to 25 cents cheaper, with the exception of the finer microns which experienced falls of around 10 cents.
There were 23,444 bales offered for sale, of which 19.9 percent were passed in.
Auctions will continue in Sydney and Fremantle on Thursday, August 4 with 20,561 bales rostered for sale.
