Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday had an audience with King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz at the Royal Palace here. The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt condolence over the demise of late King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, describing him a great leader of Muslim Ummah and a great visionary.
The Prime Minister along with members of his entourage also greeted King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz on assuming his new responsibility.
Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, Prince Naif and other members of the royal family were also present on the occasion.
He hoped the new leadership of Saudi Arabia will carry forward the mission of the late King. He was appreciative of the leadership qualities of King Abdullah and said under his able guidance he will continue to lead the Ummah.
He said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were tied in strong bonds of brotherhood and every Pakistani was aggrieved by his demise and pray for the departed soul. He said close ties between the two countries would continue to grow in the days ahead.
The Prime Minister also conveyed best wishes of President General Pervez Musharraf and the people of Pakistan to King Abdullah and assured them of their full co-operation and support.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Senate chairman Mohammedmian Soomro, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, ministers for privatisation Dr Hafeez Sheikh, population Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain, health Nasir Khan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Ehsanul Haq, minister of state for overseas Pakistanis Azeem Tariq and MNA Farooq Sattar.
Saudi Arabia's finance minister Ibrahim bin Abdullah al Asaf called on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz soon after his arrival from Islamabad at Riyadh airport.
They discussed bilateral relations and promotion of trade between the two countries, existing trade and commercial ties and ways to further expand these.
The Prime Minister informed the Saudi finance minister about country's high growth rate, favourable investment opportunities and lucrative opportunities for foreign investors.
The Saudi finance minister assured the Prime Minister of his government's full co-operation and assistance by the brotherly people of Saudi Arabia.
He also appreciated Pakistan's economic growth made under the leadership of President Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
Later, Shaukat returned home after a daylong visit to Saudi Arabia.
