Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Saturday visited low-income old settlements of Karachi and inaugurated construction of six projects in Lyari and its adjoining areas, which would be funded from Rs 432 million already allocated for Lyari development schemes.
The projects that have been initiated include improved water supply system and installation of water filter plant, tonga stands, construction of new roads, repair of old worn out roads and improvement in the cleanliness.
Ibad assured the people of the area that all these projects would be completed within six to twelve months and many more would be taken up in the coming months.
He said that never before any government had taken up development works of this magnitude.
He said that these six projects would benefit the people of Lyari, Chakiwara, and New Kumbharwara.
The governor instructed concerned officials to ensure installation of streetlights, disposal of garbage, and completion of roadwork expeditiously.
Adviser on Local Government Waseem Akhtar, Minister for Planning and Development Shoab Bukhari, Adviser on Information Salahuddin Haider, DCO Fazlur Rehman, IG Police Asad Jehangir and other concerned officers accompanied the governor.
