The Election Commission (EC) has finalised all arrangements for holding the first and second phases of Local Government polls. EC secretary Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad told PPI here on Sunday that a Complaint Cell has also been set up in the Commission which is working round the clock to redress the grievances regarding the upcoming polls.
He said the EC was strictly observing the entire election process and urged the candidates to strictly observe the Code of Conduct so that the elections could be held in a peaceful environment.
Responding to a query, the EC secretary said that old identity cards could also be used for casting votes.
Meanwhile, the election campaign has gained momentum across the country as the polling dates of the two phases come nearer. The contestants have started their public contact campaign for convincing the electorates to vote in their favour. The candidates along with their supporters are also holding corner meetings for this purpose, besides setting up election offices.
