The officers of the Employees Old-age Benefits Institution (EOBI) should play their due role to ensure that the objective of the Institution is achieved through successful delivery of its subscribers' rights.
These were the views of Federal Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, while addressing as chief guest a ceremony, organised by EOBI Officers Association of Pakistan here at a hotel on Saturday night.
The ceremony was arranged in honour of retired officers and new EOBI Chairman Brig. Akhtar Zamin Khan (Retd).
Te minister underlined the need for efficient team work to achieve the set targets, saying that everyone working on a given position should evaluate his performance each day.
"We all talk about our rights without giving any regard to the performance required from us to do justice to the role we are entrusted with," said the minister.
Welcoming the new EOBI chairman, he said Akhtar Zamin is an "energetic officer", adding that he had served in trying times and challenging circumstances in the past, and hoped that he would perform with greater confidence in future for the best interest of this Institution.
He assured the new EOBI chairman of his full co-operation for the betterment of Institution, including its officers and other employees, saying all he needs is performance on everyone's part for ensuring smooth and efficient functioning of the Institution to achieve the set targets.
Ghulam Sarwar Khan identified dishonesty and hypocrisy as the two biggest problems facing the whole nation at present, and which are the main 'factors behind our decline.
Referring to the record maintenance at the EOBI, he emphasised the need for making the statistics more transparent.
He also underscored the need for bringing down the running expenditures of the Institution.
The minister particularly mentioned the plight of contract employees who are the most unprivileged class of workers without having access to even income basic rights. He underlined the need 'for formulation of' a legislation in order to protect their rights, saying that in this regard he is in the process of negotiation with the concerned authorities, including the prime minister.
On the occasion, he formed a three-member committee to identify and list the problems being faced by the officers of EOBI which would he presented to him in one month's time, and assured that all the legitimate problems will be solved at the earliest.
EOBI Chairman Brig. Akhtar Zamin (Retd), in his address, said that he would leave no stone unturned to make the Institution dynamic and vibrant to meet the challenges of the future.
On the occasion, shields and gifts were distributed among the retired and other officers of EOB1 in acknowledgement of their dedicated services.
Earlier, EOBI Officers' Association Secretary General Agha Abdullah presented the address of welcome in which he described in detail the problems of the officers and other employees of EOBI.
