Thai share prices closed 0.05 percent higher on Monday in sluggish trade amid an absence of fresh leads, dealers said. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) composite index rose 0.31 points to 686.32 and the blue chip SET 50 index was up 0.12 points at 485.31.
Losers led gainers 158 to 129 stocks with 111 stocks unchanged on turnover of 1.9 billion shares worth 11.0 billion baht (265.6 million dollars).
"The market swung narrowly and trade was sluggish the whole day as the market lacked any fresh leads," Ekpittaya Aimkongeak from Bfit Securities said.
Investors delayed their investments in big-cap shares and turned to small-cap shares while they waited for the US Federal Reserve meeting to decide whether or not to increase interest rates, he said.
Major indicies closed mix, communication rose 1.34 percent to 101.27, banking gained 0.53 percent to 239.68 and energy added 0.28 to 14,326.90 but finance and securities lost 0.50 percent to close at 1,134.79.
Bangkok Bank was unchanged at 99.00 baht while Kasikornbank rose 0.50 at 58.50 and Siam Commercial Bank edged up 0.25 at 49.00 baht.
Capital Nomura Securities shed 0.25 at 45.25.
Siam Cement plunged 8.00 at 228.00.
PTT was unchanged at 238.00 baht but its subsidiary PTT Exploration and Production added 4.00 at 440.00.
Thai Airways International and United Communication both added 0.25 at 40.75 and 49.00 respectively and Advance Info Service gained 2.00 to 106.00.
