Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry President (SCCI) Malik Niaz Ahmad has rejected the allegations of irregularities in the annual polls of the chamber saying that opponents were making excuse of escape from the elections.
Addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Monday, he said allegations of opponents were baseless and aimed at getting cheap popularity. He said the polls for Trade and Full Group categories of SCCI were scheduled for 25th and 27th, respectively.
He said three of the candidates of Businessmen Forum have been elected unopposed and elections would hold only two members for associate group.
Regarding allegations of partial attitude of the Chairman Scrutiny Committee, Malik Niaz Ahmad said Khalid Sultan Khawaja of the Businessmen Panel, which was unanimously adopted by the Executive Committee, was proposing name of Sufi Bashir Ahmad Durrani. He said now the making of accusation was a shameful act.
The SCCI chief said Faiz Rasool has not fielded any candidate for the category of Town Associations and through media he want to engage business community in a useless, baseless matters.
"These elements always remain in search of backdoors to enter the politics of business community and for this purpose they are now using the platform of Tribal Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TACCI)," he maintained.
He said the nominations of 23 candidates have been rejected on the basis of voter list while 35 nominations including the names of Faiz Rasool Khan, Haji Ghulam Ali and Khalid Sultan Khawaja have been accepted.
In response to a question, he said due to the beginning of election process no court would give stay order against SCCI polls. He said that self-proclaimed leaders were making common traders scapegoats for achievement of their ulterior motives.
