Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon said on Thursday that Pakistan was endowed with vast Hydrocarbon resources and Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) should be strengthened to introduce and promote the modern technology in order to tap oil and gas resources for the socio-economic benefits of the country.
He was chairing the 67th Board of Governors meeting of Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP).
He said that latest technology must be applied to achieve high success ratio in discovering the oil and gas in the onshore and offshore areas.
Jadoon said that Gets facility should be expanded to the agriculture sector in order to achieving high yields.
The minister said that all out efforts must be made to start manufacturing of CMG equipment in the country in order to curtail dependence on its imports. He also asked the HDIP to pace up its efforts for early start of CNG buses in Islamabad in order to make it a model city.
The DG HDIP Hilal A. Raza briefed the meeting about the research and development activities being carried out by the organisation aimed at to exploit the indigenous and cheap energy resources of the country.
He said that HDIP was extending all out help and co-operation to the petroleum companies for providing guidelines in their exploration and production activities.
The meeting also reviewed the updated performance of the HDIP and expressed satisfaction on its R&D efforts for boosting the energy sector.
The meeting also considered various administrative and financial matters of the institution.
Former Chairman SUPARCC and Chairman Scientific and Technical Committee of the Board of Governors Salim Mehmud, also gave a detailed presentation for boosting the indigenous energy resources in the country.
The Board meeting was attended by the Secretary Petroleum Ahmad Waqar, Director General HDIP, Hilal A. Raza, Salim Mehmud DG (PC) M Naeem Malik, DG Gas Saeedullah Shah, Financial Adviser Ministry of Petroleum and N.R., Abdul Ghani Sameen; Saleem Pervez Siddiqi, Joint Secretary (Projects) Planninq and Development Division, Farooq Rehmatullah, Chairman OCAC and CEO Haigler Bailly Vaqar Zakaria.
