A delegation of Sindh Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) and a group of Chinese officials and elected representatives met here on Thursday and discussed various proposals to further strengthen their ongoing co-operation in socio-economic sector. The two sides agreed for consolidating business and cultural links, particularly at the levels of youth and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
They decided to enhance bilateral co-operation for addressing their common civic problems, like water shortage and inefficient sewerage system. They underlined the need of capitalising existing tremendous goodwill and excellent diplomatic ties for economic uplift that helped to improve living conditions of their people.
"We have worked out a draft plan for future co-operation between Sindh Province and the Chinese Habei Province," said leader of Pakistan's delegation Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Raheela Tiwana.
She told APP that "the Habei provincial will send a delegation to Pakistan within a couple of months to further examine the plan at the experts' level. The Chinese side has shown willingness to provide financial and technical support to Sindh for improving its water management schemes.
The delegation including MPAs Naila Inam, Rani Ambreen and Abdul Rehman Rajput also held separate meetings with experts, officials and elected representatives of the Habei province.
Meanwhile, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has offered to undertake joint ventures with its Pakistani counterparts to develop technologies for better management of available water resources.
"The two sides already agreed to help each other developing necessary technologies to establish water treatment plants," said CAS Vice President Li Jinghai.
