The Lahore High Court (LHC) has allowed one Rana Sajjad Munir to contest election for the office of nazim in Toba Tek Singh, and observed that a defaulter could not be stopped from contesting poll until a court did not issue decree against him.
The petitioner has challenged the decision of the returning officer with contention that he had paid the defaulted amount to the Liquidation Board. However, the returning officer did not allow him to contest poll. He prayed to the court to set aside the decision of the returning officer and allow him to contest election.
ATTORNEY GENERAL SUMMONED The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed Attorney General of Pakistan to appear before the court and observed that it is constitutional right of the people of Pakistan to approach the courts for redressal of their grievances, and courts are constitutionally bound to get enforced fundamental rights.
The court passed these orders in a petition filed by one Saqib Mukhtar, who approached the court for recovery of Zubair Qayyum and others.
The court also observed that article 5 of the Constitution specifically provides that obedience to the constitution and law is the basic obligation of every citizen. The court directed the law officer to appear before the court and observed that if the detainees have committed any offence they should be treated in accordance with the law.
LHC APPROACHED A member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) with prayer to direct the President of Pakistan not to interfere in the government affairs and asked the respondent government to bring back the body of Chaudhry Rehmat Ali.
The petitioner, M D Tahir contended that Government of Pakistan had decided to bring back the body of late Chaudhry Rehmat Ali but President of Pakistan had issued a statement that this move would create a problem for the government.
