The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, Kuwait has refused to transfer commercial visit visas of some nationalities including Pakistanis to work permits, confirmed various embassies in Kuwait.
"There is a number of Pakistani citizens who have been left wondering with regards the reasons for these reservations," said First Secretary of Labour Affairs in the Pakistani Embassy in Kuwait, Amer Hussain.
The embassy assured Pakistani citizens there was no problem and then these citizens were left confounded when they found documents had been refused by the ministry. "It is imperative the ministry gives a clear indication to the embassy of any reservations so the embassy in turn can provide its citizens with accurate information," said Hussain.
"This refusal of the ministry is affecting labourers and employers. If the ministry has any reason for reservations regarding some nationalities it should inform the embassy of its reasons," The Arab daily quoted another newspaper Al-Rai Al-Aam daily.
The Labour Consultant in Egyptian embassy in Kuwait, Rizq Shwail," newspaper accounts indicate there are no reservations against any Arab or Asian nationalities regarding transfer of commercial visit visas to work permits".
If there was a reservation it should be against some occupations rather than nationalities so companies would not bring in unnecessary labour, he added.
Speaking on the same issue the Lebanese diplomat, Ghassan Abdulkhaleq said, "every country has its own way of rule and Kuwaiti officials take utmost care in defending workers rights. I am sure the Kuwaiti government is taking a number of important issues into consideration including the State's security as it knows and understands Kuwait's internal affairs better than anyone else.
