Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan visited various areas of the city on Friday for over three hours during which he laid the foundation stones of an alternative approach road for Qasba-Orangi Towns and Rehabilitation of Mirza Adam Khan Road. It may be mentioned here that so far Qasba-Orangi Towns had only one approach route for the city.
During visit to the city, the governor went in surprise to various congested areas including Lyari, Lea Market, Baldia, Ranchore Line, Bhimpura, Kharadar, Jamila Street and Timber Market and had an appraisal about civic conditions.
At different places, the people showed their delight on seeing the governor amidst them while, at various places he was showered petals by people standing on both sides of the roads. The governor mixed up with them and talked about civic facilities.
He laid the foundation stone of Qasba-Orangi tunnel and approach road, linking Shahrah-e-Noorjehan and Manghopir Road and said this is a vital connection. The project will have a 12-Km long tunnel and road and completed at a cost of Rs 139 million in 6 months.
It may be mentioned here that because of just one approach road, the people used to get affected during any disruption. Keeping this in view the governor had asked the National Highway Authority (NHA) to study the alternative route and complete the same at the earliest.
The governor told the people on the occasion that this tunnel and alternative route would not only help solve the traffic problem but also save their time consumed in travelling.
He said this would also facilitate them in having an easy link with North Nazimabad and the city centre. Dr Ishratul Ibad said such smaller connections are vital in view of growing population and traffic pressure.
"When Allah has given us the opportunity to solve the problems of people, we are working in this regard day and night and our effort is that all development schemes are completed ahead of schedule" the governor said.
When inquired by the people, the governor said that with elimination of encroachments in the way of this project, the victims will be provided better alternative, so that no citizen suffers due to implementation schemes of public interest.
Earlier Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan laid the foundation stone of rehabilitation and reconstruction of Mirza Adam Khan Road in Lyari. The project will be constructed by NHA on the desire of governor and will be his gift for people of the area.
From Mauripur Road to Dhobhi Ghat, "four kilo long road will be constructed at a cost of Rs 120 million and completed in six months.
The project will include the construction of footpaths, renovation of round-about, storm water drain and lighting. During the visit the governor was accompanied by Federal Minister Shamim Siddiqi, Advisor Local Government Waseem Akhtar, Advisor Salahuddin Hyder, DCO Fazlur Rehman and other officials.
