Chairman Wapda, Tariq Hamid has said that Rs 24.16 billion have been earmarked for the current fiscal year in order to harness water and hydropower resources in the country. Besides, an amount of Rs 8 billion will also be raised for Mangla Dam Raising Project by issuing Wapda Sukuk Bonds.
He was presiding over a progress review meeting of the water wing here on Friday. Addressing the meeting, Tariq lauded the efforts made towards full utilisation of the public sector development programme (PSDP) budget amounting to Rs 15.741 billion to accelerate the pace of work on various projects.
He asked the water sector managers for taking all possible measures to ensure timely completion of the projects. He directed the project authorities to spend more time at sites to achieve the targets set for the year 2005-06.
Earlier, the meeting reviewed progress on various projects, under execution by the water wing. Wapda chairman directed that feasibility report of Akhori Dam project to be finalised within the stipulated timeframe. Field investigation of Nai Gaj Dam project should also be completed expeditiously, he further directed.
The meeting was attended by Member (Finance) Imtiaz Anjum, Member (Water) Muhammad Mushtaq Chaudhry and other senior officials of the water wing.
