The Election Commission on Monday empowered all the district officers (revenue) and deputy district officers (revenue) in the province of Sindh with the powers of magistrate 1st class.
The Acting Chief Election Commissioner, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar conferred the powers of magistrate 1st class to all the district officers (revenue) and deputy district officers (revenue) in Sindh province, wherever to assist the law enforcing agencies on the polling days for phase-I, and II of local government elections.
Earlier, chief election commissioner held a meeting with the provincial election commissioner which was attended by the local government, capital city police officer, secretary EC, to discuss the final arrangements made by the district returning officers, city district administration Karachi and police authorities.
Acting chief election commissioner was given a detail briefing by the district and session judges about the arrangements so far made by them and about the difficulties and challenges being faced by them.
The capital city police officer also briefed about the law and order situation in Karachi and foolproof security arrangement were assured in the city.
