Army and police organised a flag march in sensitive areas of southern Punjab like Muzaffargarh, Multan, Leiah, Dera Ghazi Khan and Shujaabad on Tuesday. The army will assist security agencies in five districts of south Punjab as security arrangements have been finalised for the upcoming local governments elections on August 18.
Heavy contingents of Punjab Constabulary, Baloch Levy, Elite Force have been integrated for patrolling all over the sensitive areas while the police would be guarding polling stations on Thursday.
Five out of total 13 districts of southern Punjab have been declared sensitive from security point of view while army has been called in these districts to assist police and other law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order.
"Army would be integrated in many districts where its platoons exist.
As far as security arrangements are concerned we have divided the security plan into three phases, pre-election, day of election and post-election security arrangements," Deputy Inspector General of Police, Multan Malik Muhammad Iqbal told this correspondent.
All the district police officers, the DIGP continued, have been directed to keep all those polling stations under keen observation where there is a great threat to peace.
As part of its election duty, police force in different districts raided various places to nab suspects. Action has also been taken against proclaimed offenders in a number of districts. The force has been strictly directed to keep away miscreants and outlaws from polling stations on the day of elections.
