A nine-member high-level delegation of World Bank, accompanied by Khizar Hayat Gondal, managing director of the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC), visited Nespak House here on Thursday.
PMDFC, an enterprise of the Punjab government, had early this year engaged Nespak as consultants for the design, review and construction supervision of several uplift schemes in the province.
Karamat Ullah Chaudhry, managing director of Nespak, gave a briefing to the World Bank delegation on mega projects being executed at home and abroad under the supervision of Nespak.
He informed the delegation that currently Nespak is executing 290 projects at home and abroad. He particularly mentioned the important role of Specialty Divisions, which are operating under the care of professional experts for execution of projects.
"Currently Nespak is executing 66 projects in Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Iran and Afghanistan, he said, adding, "Nespak has expanded its foreign operation and its income from overseas projects has gone up to 40 percent."
In reply to a question Chaudhry said that Nespak attached great importance to small projects and assured the delegation that Nespak will give full attention to the World Bank-sponsored uplift projects in Punjab and fully cooperate with PMDFC, the client of the project.
Amjad A. Khan, general manager and project manager of the project, explained to the delegation the present status of work in respect of the uplift schemes undertaken in the towns of Chiniot, Pind Dadan Khan, Chakwal, Duniyapur, Lodhran, Qila Didar Singh and Fateh Jang.
The World Bank team evinced keen interest in the Nespak projects, particularly the uplift schemes in the province and highly appreciated its role in development projects. The delegation also visited the Technical Training Center recently set up in the Nespak House.
