Two persons, including a police constable were killed, while more than one dozen injured, when supporters of two rival contesting candidates starting indiscriminate firing on each other in nearby village 345-JB, here on last Wednesday night.
The injured persons have been admitted to the Allied Hospital, where three reported to be serious. Heavy police contingents have been deployed in the affected election area as well as in Allied Hospital where injured persons of both group have been under treatment.
Police Station Nawan Lahore has registered a case against more than 50 persons of both parties and arrested six of them. According to details, a police constable of Faisalabad was on leave and running a convincing drive in favour of his contesting penal, Anjum Group, with their brothers and allies in Chak 345-JB. When this drive was going on peacefully, the armed persons of Chattah Group reach there and started indiscriminate firing. Resultantly, Constable Mohammad Ashraf was killed on the spot, while his two brothers, Mohammad Aslam and Mohammad Jamil, as well as supporters Shoukat Ali and Ashiq Ali injured.
In retaliation, Anjum Group members also pulled out their guns and injured 11 supporters of the rival group. These are identified as Ghulam Hussain, Manzoor Abbas, Shehbaz Ahmad, Ghulam Abbas, Ejaz Rasool, Shoukat Aslam, Shoukat Mehmood, Sakhawat, Munawar and Babe-Ali who were removed to Allied Hospital, where Ghulam Hussain succumbed to his injuries. Three injured persons remained in serious condition. The situation is remained tense in this election area and police contingents are patrolling.
In another incident, one Mohammad Yousaf Suppra was shot to death by seven persons in Chak 198 near Chiniot, where he was having food in a road side motel after an election campaign. The owner of motel, Ghulam Hussain, was also injured in discriminate firing and removed to Allied Hospital in serious condition.
