Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said Police Patrolling Posts (PPPs) have been made operational in 22 districts of the province, while that project would soon be implemented in the remaining districts to curb crimes, and provide sense of protection to the citizens.
A computerised monitoring system has also been devised to monitor the efficiency of those posts, he added. He said that while presiding over a high level meeting here on Friday, which reviewed Police Patrolling Posts project.
The chief minister said Police Patrolling Posts were playing an effective role in the safety of travel in far-flung areas. He directed to ensure that Police Patrolling Posts should serve as a help-line for citizens. He said Punjab Information Technology Board has finalised arrangements for computerising the network of Police Patrolling Posts which would not only help monitor crimes in the respective areas but also enhance efficiency of police posts.
He said Director General Monitoring Inspection would perform his responsibilities with regard to performance of these patrolling posts. He said staff deputed at patrolling posts has been imparted training on modern lines and latest weapons, transport and wireless system has also been made available so that police officials could cope with any untoward situation.
He said computer training has also been given to the staff of patrolling posts so that they could perform their responsibilities in an efficient manner.
Punjab Inspector General Police Zia-ul-Hassan Khan said computerisation programme of Punjab police has been evolved. It would be launched as a pilot project in 10 districts of the province in the first phase while all police stations of Punjab would be computerised within a period of one and a half-year.
Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Rasool said he had inspected Police Patrolling Posts during his visit to Gujranwala and Sialkot and was satisfied with their efficiency towards elimination of crimes.
