Chairman Standing Committee of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Housing Munir Sultan has urged the government to pay full attention to develop housing units in Karachi and provide incentive to builders and developers to meet the shortage in the city.
He said that builders and developer were trying their best to meet the shortage of housing units in the country.
Speaking at a meeting of Businessmen Group (BMG) at his residence on, he said as per World Bank report there is around 625,000 housing units shortage in the country.
He said that around 270,000 housing units are constructed annually out of which 85 percent are built by private builders and developers, whereas annual requirement of housing units is around 670,000.
Regarding influx of population in Karachi, Munir Sultan said around 0.6 to 0.7 million people migrate from interior parts of the country in search of job annually. They are the biggest cause of developing 'katchi abadies' in the city due to non-availability of jobs as well as housing facilities.
Speaking next, Siraj Kasim Teli invited business community to join BMG group to serve business community and resolve their problems.
He said election schedule of the KCCI would be announced in a day or two.
Kasim Teli said elections would be held on 15 seats and added that the group is fully prepared for the contest. He noted that last year out of 8000 voters around 4250 voters used their right only.
