Pakistan is holding first Population Summit from September 22 in Islamabad to create awareness about family planning. Unveiling the details of the two-day summit, Federal Minister for Population Welfare, Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain on Sunday said representatives belonging to various countries would participate in the summit.
The sole objective of the summit is to share the experience on this crucial issue, which is affecting social as well economic progress of countries.
Shahbaz said Ulema's support to family planning according to the teachings of Islam is encouraging and appreciable which may provide positive results in the society.
He said time has changed and now the Muslims are supposed to understand the ground realities, which demand rational thinking about the population issue.
"Islam is a religion of quality not quantity and it has laid more emphasis on qualitative life. The Muslims are supposed to portray a true picture of Islam among the comity of nation," he added.
He further said the government has a strong political commitment to control the menace of population growth and provide better living opportunities to masses.
The minister for population said the message of welfare was being carried out to the people through different ways and the year is also being observed with the theme of equality "thus making efforts to provide equal opportunities of welfare to everyone".
