The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) will select new Member, Human Resource Management (HRM), on Wednesday, August 24, from seven private sector short-listed candidates.
A panel of government officials will conduct interviews of the short-listed candidates. Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Salman Shah is likely to head the interview panel.
All seven short-listed candidates are from private sector. It is learnt that Zafar Taji, Director, Pakistan Tobacco Company, is the strongest candidate for this slot. Strong rumours about selection of Taji were heard throughout the Board on Monday.
Details about the seven candidates show that none of these candidates is a retired tax official or a former CBR Member, but they are representatives of the corporate sector or business community.
The CBR had approved the resignation of Zafar Aziz Osmani and ended his contract appointment from March 1, 2005. On completion of three years' tenure in CBR, Osmani has joined Habib Bank as senior vice president and head of organisation of development and human resource management from March 7, 2005.
