The Lahore High Court (LHC) has restored the declaration of daily Islam Lahore by suspending the orders of the District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Lahore. The court also called for a report and comments from the respondent and directed the office to fix the petition after the comments are received from the respondent.
The DCO Lahore had cancelled the declaration of Daily Islam Lahore on the basis of publishing some sectarian material in the newspaper. The petitioner, Chief Editor Daily Islam, contended that his newspaper is a national newspaper. He contended that the respondent DCO illegally and without lawful authority cancelled the declaration of the newspaper. He therefore, prayed to the court to set aside the orders of the respondent DCO.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, suspended the orders of respondent DCO and called for a report.
