Businessmen Forum (BF) clinched all the three seats of the Full Group on executive committee of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) as the rival group of Businessmen Panel (BP) boycotted the annual polls of the trade body.
According to results announced by the election committee after counting the ballots Malik Sajjad Awan, Mohammad Sadiq and Mohammad Arshad Siddiqui of the Businessmen Forum were declared elected to the executive committee of the SCCI. Out of a total of 820 voters, 543 cast their votes.
Polling for the four seats of Associate Group would be held on August 27 and the candidates of the ruling group Inayat Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Haji Israr Saraf and Mian Mohammad Akhtar are set to be elected as the rival group had already announced boycott of the polls.
Meanwhile, leader of the Businessmen Panel and Vice President, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Faiz Rasool Khan, has rejected the SCCI polls on Thursday. He said that majority of the members has boycotted the polls and a few personal friends of the ruling group have cast their votes.
He said it was astonishing that despite receiving the judgement of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), the Director Trade Organisation (DTO) did not heard their petition and moved to Skardu and now he would return after August 27.
Faiz Rasool said that they would have accepted the decision of the DTO that how nominations of the candidates of his group were rejected. He said that the rejection of 12 candidates of his group by the election committee was a joke with the election process.
He said that the group is also considering filing a contempt of court case against the DTO to know why the latter is not hearing their case even after the decision of the high court.
The executive committee of the SCCI has 22 members of whom Businessmen Forum has the support of 17 members. This year, the election scheduled was announced for 12 seats. But five candidates of the Businessmen Forum were elected unopposed.
