Karachi University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim has said that Pakistan is rich in mineral and other resources and there is a need to apply modern research methods and technology to attain maximum possible benefits. He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of a workshop on current trends in flowering plant taxonomy on Monday.
The two-day moot is being organised by the Department of Botany University of Karachi in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The vice-chancellor asked the scientists to carry out research on the plants that were found in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasions the vice-chancellor of Kohat University of Science and Technology, Professor Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari pointed towards the research work being carried out on the medicinal plants in the country. He said that there was a need to continue such a task and modern methods and technology be applied for the same.
A former vice-chancellor of Karachi University, Professor Dr S.I Ali said that Dr Herbert of Canada carried out study on up to 650 plants in less than three years and was successful in identification and classification of these plants.
He was of the view that with the application of modern technology in Pakistan prompt and better results could be achieved.
