Though many names from the winning groups were in the air after they won local bodies' polls in their respective jurisdictions but political maneuvering and last-ditch efforts to woo opponents for smooth sailing in the coming elections of Nazims and Naib Nazims are still being made.
In Sindh, Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Sukkur and Larkana are among the most talked about places where Nazims and Naib Nazims would make political dent in the provincial as well as national politics.
Political pundits on Tuesday said that these seven districts, out of 27 in Sindh would be the trend-setter and determine fate of political parties that have formed these groups to fight the war for their survival.
They opine that out of these seven districts three are likely to be dominated by the Haq Parast Group, two by Awam Dost and two by Khushal Pakistan-backed group.
In Karachi, Muttahida Qaumi Movement has extended invitation to the Jamaat-i-Islami to cooperate in the development of the city, forget differences and to work for the betterment of the people of the city.
Though this gesture of goodwill has not been responded so far but at least it is an indication that the winning political parties are willing to accommodate the losers.
Sources close to the MQM said on Tuesday that Waseem Akhtar, presently adviser to the Sindh chief minister on local government, is all set to be nominated for the Nazim slot and all others, who were in the run, have agreed on this name unconditionally.
They said that the JI was considering to pitch Dr Pervaiz Mehmood against Akhtar 'to complete the formality' as they know their fate.
They said that boycott of the September 29 elections for Nazim could not be ruled out as the MMA had on Monday said that it would consider boycotting all future elections under the present government.
Sources said that out of 18 towns in Karachi 14 are likely to be stronghold of the MQM as they have majority of supporters in these towns.
