Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, has directed that the new master plan for the up-gradation of Lahore Zoo be given a practical shape expeditiously. He was presiding over a high-level meeting regarding Lahore Zoo and conservation and promotion of wildlife, here on Tuesday.
Chief Secretary, Punjab Kamran Rasool, Chairman Planning and Development, Sibtain Fazal Haleem, Principal Secretary Finance and Taxation, Salman Siddique, Secretary Forests, Major Muhammad Iqbal (Retd), Director General Wildlife, Rao Iftikhar Ahmad and other senior officers were present.
Under this project, besides renovation of Lahore Zoo, more varieties of wildlife as well as rare species of birds would be added. An amount of Rs 200 million would be spent on the Lahore Zoo up-gradation project. A task force would also be formed for better management for conservation and promotion of wildlife, he added.
The Chief Minister said an international standard Safari Park, over an area of 242 acres would be set up in Lahore Park, at a cost of Rs 300 million. He said cages would be remodelled to provide a natural habitat to the animals.
The Chief Minister averred that special attention would be paid to the food of animals as well as improvement of sanitary condition in the Lahore Zoo.
He said the government was focusing on provision of better recreational facilities to the citizens for setting up a healthy society.
He averred that a huge amount was being utilised for the improvement of recreational spots in the province as it helped in strengthening of economy. An international Safari Park would be established over an area of 1,62,000 acres in Lal Sohanra Park Bahawalpur where a lake would be developed over 5000 acres while trees would be planted over 20000 acres of land.
