Public Safety Commission (PSC) chairman can recommend conviction of any police official guilty of misconduct under sections 155 and 156 of the Police Order 2002. This was observed by PSC chairman Muhammad Ibrahim, while talking to APP here on Tuesday.
He said under section 155, if a police officer without reasonable cause or legal authority enters, searches or causes to be entered or searched any building, vessel, tent or place of any person unnecessarily inflicts violence to any person in custody whether at a police station or anywhere else-it is an offence that merits conviction and is punishable with five year imprisonment and fine.
He said if the Commission chief receives any complaint of this nature he can, after holding an inquiry, recommend to a court of law or authority, the conviction of the said police officer.
He said he would use this authority according to law if he finds any police official guilty of misconduct. Ibrahim said that all the 92 PSC chairmen from across the country have sought a meeting with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for effective empowerment of the Public Safety Commission institution as per law and Police Order 2002, so that public grievances could be genuinely redressed.
