A seven member delegation of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) Sub-Committee for Commerce, Industry and Environment led by Sohail Wajahat A. Siddiqui met with Federal Minister for Commerce Humayun Akhtar Khan.
The delegation represented various companies doing business in Pakistan. Secretary Commerce Asif Shah and Trade Policy Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce, Dr Nadeemul Haq attended the meeting.
Key areas impacting overseas investors like intellectual property rights, infrastructure cess, tobacco cess, trade with India, value addition, non-tariff barriers of other countries and Pakistan's image abroad were discussed at length.
The commerce minister said that government was committed to promoting and developing commerce in Pakistan and that government was committed to promoting and developing commerce in Pakistan and that was manifested in the Trade Policy 2005-06.
He said that the Ministry of Commerce had a long-term vision to boost investor confidence and provide a sustainable framework for planning and investment. The minister urged the members to benefit from the conducive environment for investment prevailing in Pakistan.-PR
