Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan has said that PCB has adopted appropriate measures for the promotion of cricket at grass-root level in the country.
Talking to Business Recorder here on Saturday afternoon at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) he added that the aim of this programme has the revival of school level cricket in all four provinces of the country as the school level cricket had totally vanished in the past 15 years.
Shaharyar disclosed that 459 teams would participate in cricket championship in next year in which government private school would take part in school level cricket championship in the country.
Replying to a question the Chairman PCB said that there is nothing against Shoaib Akhtar and we are watching his performance.
He added that Shoaib Akhtar had improved considerably and had reduced his weight. Shaharyar Khan further stated that special attention had been accorded on team fitness and the player had showed a tremendous improvement in even that field in the current training camp established for Australian (A) and I am very impressed over the fitness and performance of the players.
Replying to another question the Chairman PCB said that the team coach Bob Woolmer had played an instrumental role in training of the player and we are satisfied with the performance adding that usually the result of coaching appeared in four to five year hut the present coach had paid extraordinary efforts for grooming the cricket team.
To another question Shaharyar Khan said that cricket had slipped towards remote areas from the big cities as result of which large number of talented young player are showing their excellence performance in domestic cricketing of the country adding that NWFP Province in leading in producing cricket players. Responding to a question the Chairman PCB revealed that more grounds would be developed in various parts for the promotion of cricket in the country.
